Crime, Media and Culture explores our cultural fascination with crime and punishment and its representation in a variety of media forms in Australia and internationally. The subject will introduce students to important theoretical concepts, such as moral panics, cultural criminology and contemporary media theory, to help students question why and how our consumption of crime through various forms shapes our knowledge and understanding of crime and the criminal justice system. This subject will cover a range of different media and examples of crime and deviant behaviour, offering opportunities for critical analysis, the impact of cultural criminology on law and social policy, and our emotional responses to crime and violence.
